Interviewing with Hello Chef: What to expect

If you’re interested in applying for a role with Hello Chef, you may be keen to learn more about our interview process. We’ve created a standardized step-by-step process that we truly believe in to ensure that we consistently seek the brightest candidates across departments. Expect high levels of engagement throughout the process, and plenty of in-depth discussions to give us a thorough understanding of your professional experience and values.

Phase 1: Introduction to Hello Chef

In this first step, your CV and any pre-interview questions that you have been required to answer will be reviewed by our HR department. Should you seem a suitable fit for the role, our HR manager will schedule a quick 30-minute phone call with you, which is an opportunity for us to get to know you better and for you to ask any initial questions you may have regarding the role.

Phase 2: In-depth interview

Here, you’ll walk us through your professional experience to date, as we dive into the highs and lows of each position you’ve held up until this point.

Phase 3: Task

Should you be successful in passing the in-depth interview, we will set you a task based on the scorecard provided. We value this step as it helps us understand your work and practical knowledge in action. Each test has been set by the department head to be as relevant and applicable to the role as possible. This task will then be discussed in your next and final interview.

Phase 4: Focus interview

Here at Hello Chef, we invest heavily in making sure each team member is a great cultural fit for the organization. With that in mind, phase 4 of the process involves an in-depth discussion to deep dive into our company values and assess the candidate’s alignment with them. It’s worth noting that our four company values are: Simplify, Whatever It Takes, Fun and Positive Family & Team Spirit. We’ll also discuss the task that was set at this stage.

Phase 5: Reference check

Following a successful focus interview, we will then seek to validate your experience with recent reference contacts, provided by you. All that is left to do then is for our team to discuss the opportunity internally for you to join us. We aim to provide final feedback to you within 2 days, but we will be sure to keep you updated throughout the process.

Hints and tips to prepare you

Our interviews are often conducted via Google Meets, so it would be worth you familiarizing yourself with this platform ahead of your interview if you haven’t used it before. It’s also a good idea to test your microphone and camera before joining the call. Is it just us that feels that “can you hear me?” was the most used phrase of 2020?!

Remember, you get out of things what you put in – and that certainly applies when it comes to interviews. Spend some time ahead of the call to prepare some questions that you’d like answering. We always aim to leave around 10-15 minutes at the end of the call to ensure there’s chance for questions.
