5 Minute Iftar Desserts to Prepare with Kids

By May 1, 2020 Children

There’s always room for dessert. And guess what? There’s always time to prepare one as well!

Finish your Iftar with these speedy, delicious dessert recipes. All you need is 5 minutes, a few simple ingredients, and some help from the little ones.

Let the kids build the fruit and cookie platter while you whip the cream!

Fruit and Berry Salad with Cookie Crumbles and Whipped Cream

Use any fruits and berries that you have at home, for this speedy dessert salad. Chop the fruits and add them with the berries onto a serving plate. Crumble your favourite cookies on top (we like Oreos and chocolate chip cookies!) Whip some cream and season it with a sugar and vanilla. Serve alongside the fruit and cookie salad.

Put a Middle Eastern twist into it! Add chopped dates or pomegranate seeds.

This two-ingredient treat is as healthy as desserts go.

Frozen Banana and Berry Ice Cream

For this one you need to be a bit prepared. Have some ripe bananas sliced and frozen in advance. You can actually prepare the ice cream using only bananas, but frozen berries make this ice cream extra tasty. We love to use frozen raspberries for flavour and appearance!

Let the frozen bananas and raspberries thaw for a little while, then add them to a food processor. Mix until smooth. Scoop into bowls and serve immediately.

Put a Middle Eastern twist into it! Add a pinch of cardamom and cinnamon powder when you’re mixing the ice cream, or a dash of rose water.

Speedy Cheesecakes

Crumble any kind of cookies or sweet crackers into glasses (tip: put the cookies into a plastic bag and crush using a rolling pin).

In a bowl, combine one or two packets of cream cheese with a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt. Sweeten the mixture with sugar to taste. Add vanilla and/or 1-2 Tbsp of lemon or lime juice. Mix until smooth. Scoop into the glasses, on top of the cookie crumbles. Garnish the cheesecakes with berries or sliced fruit.

Put a Middle Eastern twist into it! Soak a few saffron threads in 1 Tbsp of hot water beforehand. Use the infused saffron in the cream cheese mix.

This classic dessert is a hard one to beat.

Caramelized Pineapple with Ice Cream

Roll fresh pineapple pieces in sugar. Melt some butter in a pan. Once hot, add the pineapple and fry over a low heat on each side until the pineapple has caramelized nicely. If you like, dust with a bit of cinnamon. Serve with vanilla ice cream.

Put a Middle Eastern twist into it! Garnish the dessert with peeled pistachios and chopped walnuts.

Fresh fruit, dried fruit, berries, sweets, cake bites… What’s going into your kebab?

Dessert Kebabs

Use your imagination to create an abundance of dessert skewers. Add any fruit pieces (banana, kiwi, mango, pineapple, watermelon, grapes) and berries (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries) that you might have. If you have leftover cake (brownie, shortcake, lemon pound cake), cut it into cubes. Find any soft candy that you can pierce with a skewer (marshmallows, fruit marmalade, fudge, wine gum). Finally, thread all the goodies into wooden skewers! Or better yet – don’t! Let the kids enjoy the task.

Put a Middle Eastern twist into it! Add lokum (Turkish delights), maamoul (date filled cookies) or pieces of baklava to your skewers.

Ramadan Kareem!
